Deep cleaning
Periodontal disease leads to bone loss, attachment loss and eventually tooth loss. At Thrive Dental in Sachse we want all of our patients to keep all of their teeth for their whole life. With that in mind we think it’s vital to get your deep cleaning if needed so that you can maintain a health bone level.
Scaling and root planing
Scaling and root planing is better known as deep cleaning. Deep cleaning is when the dentist or hygienist go below the gum line to remove any tarter and bacteria that has been there for months or years. Removing that decay will help maintain proper oral hygiene and help bad breathe.
How do you treat gum disease?
If you find blood on your floss or toothbrush this is likely a sign of gingivitis or periodontitis. These are both form of disease that is occurring in your mouth which can lead to bad breathe and tooth loss. This can be treated with a deep cleaning and potentially periodontal surgery. If properly maintained you can regain some attachment loss and keep your teeth for a lifetime.
Chlorhexidine antibiotic therapy
Once a deep cleaning is done it is rather common to get antibiotic therapy. This will help your gums heal and allow you to maintain a proper bone level. We will likely see you at shorter intervals to make sure you do not get any deeper periodontal pockets and ensure we are making progress for your oral health.
